Katie Marrache’s success as a venture capitalist — the youngest female VC in Europe since being made partner at JamJar Investments aged 28 — comes down to one significant thing: she’s fascinated by people. The Hampstead-based 30-year-old’s introduction to venture capital came from listening to inspirational businesspeople at Oxford University’s Oxford Entrepreneurs society, where she met Dragons’ Den’s James Caan and asked for an internship, which saw her looking after his angel portfolios. Three years later, at 24, she decided that actually, television was more her vibe and became a researcher on BBC1’s The One Show, ‘in part quite similar to venture capital because you’re just learning about people’. But she missed the commercial side of things and soon after moved to Innocent, the smoothie disruptors. When they set up venture capital firm JamJar, Marrache went with them.
