The School of Life's 'futurist' Ben Hammersley looks into the future and reveals what's in store...

1.) Massive increase in cycling

The future city will have more bike lanes and more cycle super highways, preferably elevated or separated from the road.

2.) Encouraged biodiversity

Guerrilla gardening is on the rise and buildings in London are now being built with green roofing (totally covered with vegetation). This will provide a place for plants and help insulate buildings.

3.) Numerical jobs in jeopardy

If you’re an accountant, watch your back! Any repetitive or numerically-based jobs could be replaced by machines, by AI.

Knowledge jobs or those that physically help someone, like nursing, should be fine.

4.) Increase in river traffic

More of London’s waterways, like the Lea in the north-east, will be rediscovered and used for transporation.

5.) Consequences for Crossrail 2018

In eight minutes, you’ll be able to travel from King’s Cross to Stratford. The whole city will shift its focus about five miles east.
