Edie Campbell on why modelling is not a patch on designing

Model Edie Campbell has revealed how she became bored with "humourless" fashion and decided to launch her own range of iron-on patches made from old clothes.

The Vogue cover star from west London teamed up with childhood best friend Christabel MacGreevy to create Itchy Scratchy Patchy, using reclaimed fabrics for the patches.

Campbell, 25, was discovered by Mario Testino at 15 and rose to become Britain’s model of the year but believes the job is no longer "cool".

She told ES magazine: "I was a bit bored by what I was seeing in fashion. Everything was made to look really good on Instagram, or else it was quite ‘normcore’ and two-dimensional and beige."

"We had this long conversation about how, when we were 16, we used to buy hideous clothes off eBay and chop them up and make even uglier things - this real process of getting an outfit together, that had been lost."

"Plus a lot of our friends were becoming quite tasteful and chic, which was horrifying."

"[The patches are] idealistic in the sense that you’re marking yourself out. It’s that thing of signing up, wanting to say something through the way you dress, and wanting to have clothes that have memories."
