The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s annual Christmas card has been released.

While it may be the season to sparkle, this year the family of five - the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge along with children Prince George, Prince Charlotte and Prince Louis - opted to not only match each other but also to scale it way back in a colour palette of earthy tones that matched the army of logs behind them.

In the snap, captured by photographer Matt Porteous in the grounds of Anmer Hall, the Duchess of Cambridge wears a mulled wine-hued J. Crew jumper she last wore last February to make plans for the Chelsea Flower show. Perhaps a nod to her tipple of choice on the big day?

On her knee sits an adorable Princess Charlotte sporting an already sold out intarsia winter warmer courtesy of Ralph Lauren and mini-me versions of Kate’s favourite Penelope Chilvers Long Tassel Boots.

This isn’t the first time that the Cambridges have colour-coordinated their Christmas card. In 2017, the family of four (before Prince Louis) wore varying shades of icy blue, which was in a similar vein to last year’s palette, where Kate wore a baby blue Boden dress and the family posed up a storm against a decidedly more summery backdrop.

It is thought that this year the family opted to colour-coordinate in neutral tones in an act of togetherness and to foster a sense of community, after what has been a tumultuous period for many. This Christmas also marks the first time in three decades that the Queen's annual Christmas at Sandringham has been canceled, due to concerns about the coronavirus pandemic.

This year’s card is addressed 'To all the amazing NHS staff,' with the message: 'Wishing you a very Happy Christmas and New Year'.

Prince William writes in the card: 'We can never thank you again for all the dedication and sacrifice you have had to make this year. We will be forever grateful.'

If that doesn’t get you in the festive spirit, nothing will.
