Today Muslims in the UK and all over the world will be celebrating Eid ul-Fitr, marking the end of the Ramadan.
Typically lasting from one to three days, Eid ul-Fitr is a time for forgiveness and making amends.
During Eid ul-Fitr, it is customary for Muslims to visit a mosque and participate in prayer before sitting down with family and friends for their first daylight meal after a month of fasting during Ramadan.
Well-wishers often greet each other by saying “Eid Mubarak” – which means “happy holiday.”

In the UK this year, Eid will be celebrated on June 4.
The exact date of Eid ul-Fitr is determined by the first sighting of the new moon. The end of Ramadan is marked on the 29th day if a new moon is sighted, but if not it extends to the 30th day.
The moon was partly visible in London yesterday, so many Muslims will celebrate Eid ul-Fitr today.
