Palm Springs Film Festival: Emma Stone, Bradley Cooper and Olivia Colman kick off awards season

With the Golden Globes just around the corner, stars including Emma Stone, Olivia Colman, Emily Blunt and Bradley Cooper are gearing up for a busy awards season. This week they hit the California desert to kick off proceedings at the Palm Springs Film Festival.

Stone - who stars in one of the season's predicted big winners The Favourite - posed for photos with her co-star Olivia Colman in a metallic floral jumpsuit before presenting her with an award.

Accepting the prize, Colman reflected that the location was far from her chilly native England. “Thank you for inviting me here and proving that you are real," she said, "I always imagined Palm Springs was sort of like Narnia.”

Colman stars in The Favourite as Queen Anne, a role she's widely expected to score a Best Actress Oscar nomination for later this month. 2019 will of course see her star as another Queen: Elizabeth II, in the third season of The Crown.

Other stars who came out to celebrate included A Star Is Born director and actor Bradley Cooper, who turns 44 on Saturday. Fans greeted him with chants of "Happy birthday" as he took photos with them on the red carpet.
