BBC drama Normal People has caused a stir for its numerous sex scenes and the chemistry between its two leads.
Now James Corden has put those stars, Daisy Edgar-Jones (Marianne) and Paul Mescal (Connell), through the ultimate on-screen chemistry test by inviting them to give resolutely unsexy clips from three television shows a Normal People twist.
As consummate professionals, they delivered.
Appearing on the show via video link, Edgar-Jones and Mescal gamely reworked an extract from the Home Shopping Network - where two hosts sell a range of tracksuit bottoms - a clip of Guy Fieri learning how to make a hot mushroom sandwich and an excerpt on canned crab from Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares.
Normal People, based on the book of the same name by Sally Rooney, has been a runaway success, scoring BBC Three its best-ever week on iPlayer and making stars of Edgar-Jones and Mescal.
The drama follows the lives of high school then university students Connell and Marianne as they navigate their on-off relationship through peer pressure, family tension and mental health issues.
