Rumpo-obsessed hornbags rule

The British have become a shedful of metrosexuals and hornbags obsessed by rumpo and celebrity goss ... apparently.

This observation on modern life was inspired by the latest desktop edition of the Collins English Dictionary, which has been updated with the latest office speak.

The editors say the trendy terms reveal a nation obsessed with sex, status and celebrity.

Words making their debut include hasbian - a lesbian dating a man - pap from paparazzi and fugly - a very rude derivative meaning rather ugly. Then there are the metrosexuals (heterosexual men who spend a great deal of time and money on their appearance) and the hornbags (good-looking, promiscuous women).

Both these groups are apparently obsessed by rumpo - having sex.

The dictionary also lists the latest celebrity A-list which includes Catherine Zeta Jones, Jude Law, Kate Moss and BeyoncÈ Knowles.

Making an unceremonious exit from the list are George Michael and a group of royals led by Princess Anne and Prince Andrew. Prince Harry, however, does make the list.

Editor-in-chief Jeremy Butterfield said the list contained everyone who has made an impact on our lives in recent times from politics - Senator John Kerry - to polar exploration - Sir Ranulph Fiennes.

He added: 'The newcomers are entitled to feel smug that they have made it in but need to watch their backs. There is a crowd of ambitious up-and-comers vying for a place.'
