The University of Sussex is launching an opera performed entirely by robots.

Following weeks of singing practise coordinated by programming experts, the two Nao robots will perform on Thursday 15 June.

The two robots will stage a specially composed opera called 'O One', which will be performed with a cello and partly sung in binary code.

The event has been organised in conjunction with the Centre for Research in Opera and Music Theatre and the Centre for Research in the Creative and Performing Arts.

Dr Evelyn Ficarra, Lecturer in music at Sussex University thinks the project has potential for impact beyond opera and music theatre:

"The virtues of of the musician - listening, co-operation, group creativity - are transferable skills that could apply in all kinds of human situations."

Robot Opera takes place on campus at Falmer House 120 on Thursday 15 June, from 2-6pm.
