Lampard's fears over pregnant Elen

Frank Lampard has told how his pregnant girlfriend was left badly shocked when burglars burst into their new home.

The 26-year-old England and Chelsea star and his fiancee Elen Rives were sleeping upstairs as the raiders, believed to be Fulham supporters, forced open the front door to his house, in a multimillion pound row of terraces, shortly after 4am yesterday.

The thieves stole the keys to the footballer's £100,000 Aston Martin DB9 and £40,000 Mercedes Kompressor G Wagon before driving the vehicles away. A computer and plasma screen TV were also taken.

A source close to the family said the raid has prompted Lampard to install new security equipment at the home in Chelsea close to The Boltons.

"Frank's first thought was for Elen," the friend added. "She's due to give birth in August, so this is the last thing he wanted to happen to her.

"They weren't hurt, but they were obviously very shaken. She was very shocked and worried."

Elen, 28, looked tired and upset as she spoke about the raid. But she said: "It is OK. We have got everything back."

One car was later found in Chelsea, the other in Battersea. It was only as they heard the cars pulling away that the couple realised what had happened. Lampard went downstairs to find "Fulham Forever" and FFC signs daubed on the wall in paint, said the friend.

Police say the signs indicate the raiders had targeted Lampard intentionally.

The star had earlier undergone surgery on a toe injury and his tonsils, which will mean he will miss England's forthcoming tour of the USA. "It's fair to say he didn't have the greatest of days," said the friend.

Scotland Yard said a man was later arrested in Battersea on suspicion of burglary.

Lampard was named the Football Writers' Footballer of the Year after Chelsea clinched their first league title in 50 years, and despite the break-in he still intends to collect his award tonight.

Last night several people filed in and out of the house, including builders.

They told how Lampard was watching his old team, West Ham, beat Ipswich 2-0 to reach the Championship play-off final.

The last person to leave said: "He's in there, but he won't be coming out tonight."
