Flare at the festival

Blame Kate Moss. Before she sauntered on to sun-filled Glastonbury turf last year in a pink kaftan, the most difficult question facing anyone packing for the festival was whether to take their bikini, wellies, or both.

Looking good at a festival is made doubly difficult by the fact that, unless you've managed to blag backstage hospitality, you're probably staying in a tent with no access to a shower. But, with a few ethnic accessories and the right attitude, there's no reason you can't pull the whole thing off with style.

The key, of course, is not to look like you're trying too hard. You're aiming for laid-back cool rather than designer slick, so leave your I'm With The Band T-shirt at home (unless you really are) and don't even think about heels.

The essence of festival fashion is that it has to be multi-purpose: after you've crammed your sleeping bag into your backpack, there won't be much room left for multiple costume changes. A loose dress you can wear over your bikini during the day and over jeans at night is essential; likewise, vintage tees over short denim will stand you in good stead.

A bandanna doubles as a belt; a sun hat is a good idea and so is an umbrella.

If your bank balance is looking a little low after forking out £109 for your ticket, layer coloured vests and accessorise with chunky bracelets and denim shorts for an outfit you can wear from morning until night. Head to H&M for cheap linen trousers that look great even when you've had them scrunched up in your bag.
