Carla says 'non' to baby photos

Carla Bruni-Sarkozy today instructed lawyers to warn anybody against trying to picture her new daughter.

Hours after giving birth to a girl in Paris, the 43-year-old supermodel-turned-singer sent letters to newspaper and TV editors making it clear that she did not want her second child to become a celebrity.

But this did not stop French media commentators from predicting that the child would be called Dalia or Julia - and that Ms Bruni-Sarkozy would soon write a song about her.

"Carla wants it both ways," said one. "On the one hand she wants to be seen as an ordinary mum, while on the other she adores the limelight and wants her girl to be a star too."

President Nicolas Sarkozy, 56, visited his new child today at the private Muette Clinic, close to his home in the 16th arrondissement of Paris. Messages of congratulation are thought to have arrived from Mick Jagger and Eric Clapton, who are among her ex-lovers.
