An eco-home accessible only by foot on a private island in the Thames has gone on sale for £1 million.
Visitors to Weir Cottage, on the island of Wheatleys Eyot, by Sunbury-on-Thames, have to park in a residential street near the river and take a footpath and bridge to access the property.
The three-bedroom house, which costs just £2.50 a day to run, is heated with a pump that uses the same energy it takes to boil a kettle.
It is on the market with estate agents Hamptons International.
Owner Emma Grant, who has lived in the cottage for nine years, said that despite its proximity to London, the island is like living in “another world”.
Aaron Williams, of Hamptons International, said the property would be perfect for people looking for something “idyllic and away from mainstream society” as when you walk through the gate “all stress disappears”.
