Shad Thames, the cobbled riverside district alongside Tower Bridge, gets better with age. Arguably it is Docklands’ design quarter, and it is certainly the most expensive.
Just inland, the territory has a different feel — more mixed and busier — but the architectural legacy of the old docks survives. Hop Studios, on Jamaica Road, has a Victorian decorative brick front with arched windows, behind which are new two-bedroom apartments and a penthouse, above. Interiors have engineered timber floors, Poggenpohl kitchens and air conditioning.
