Silver design will shine at Goldsmiths' Fair
On September 22, Goldsmiths’ Fair opens its doors for a two-week exhibition featuring the contemporary collections of more than 170 independent British designer-makers.
This prestigious event, which has been running for more than 30 years, showcases innovative gold and silver design.
The collection is devoted largely to jewellery design, however the fair also includes some beautiful pieces for the home, from vases and bowls to a meticulously hand-crafted silver teapot.
Exhibitors are selected by an expert judging panel, which this year includes internationally renowned architect Zaha Hadid, who is guest curating a selection of 21 personal highlights from the event. Ten recent graduates are selected each year to display their new collections, also giving buyers the chance to discover emerging new talent.
Items that have caught Hadid’s eye ahead of the show’s opening include an unusually sculptured silver ‘Arrondi’ vase by Hampshire-based designer Olivia Lowe. Taking inspiration from flowers, Lowe creates vessels that are as visually arresting as the bouquets themselves.
A faceted bowl by silvermsith Kathryn Hinton is also on Hadid's list of highlights. Hinton merges traditional techniques with digital technology to create her bespoke pieces.
Collectors and design aficionados can buy the pieces on display at the event, which range in price from £150 to £150,000.
