2. Following a grand guzzling reception at Fortnum & Mason for its welcome inaugural Food & Drink Awards, Shaun Hill cooked from his memories Robert Carrier’s lamb cutlets in filo pastry.
3. Chum Keith McNally had tickets for The Weir (wonderful). Afterwards at buzzing, brimful Balthazar, I chose the plat du jour of coquilles St Jacques.
4. Alan Bird, former exec chef at the Ivy, has opened Bird of Smithfield, where in the spirit of the market I ordered Barnsley chop with bubble and squeak.
5. Roti de porc from Marylebone’s Ginger Pig. After cooking, the neat sweetness of slender slices went well with a buttery sauté of asparagus and teeny peeled broad beans.
