Visit funny festivals and a secret garden

While lots of the capital’s luvvies have left the city to grace the stages of the Edinburgh Fringe this month, there’s more than enough of them left to entertain the crowds at Camden’s very own extravaganza of theatre, comedy, dance, music and opera (to 30 August). The Camden Fringe takes place at venues across north London but the Camden People’s Theatre – home to some of the city’s most cutting-edge performance – is a great place to start. Dock your Santander Cycle at Warren Street station this week to catch the likes of comedian Jake Yapp and theatre duo Holly&Ted.

There’s more culture on offer at Spotlight, a one-day music, arts and comedy festival which takes over the Seven Dials area of Covent Garden on 15 August from 12 to 7pm. Dock your bike at Earnshaw Street then continue on foot through traffic-free streets for live music (including brass juggernaut the Hackney Colliery Band, and the cast of Beautiful – The Carole King Musical), tasty street food, free drinks and fantastic discounts at local retailers.

The food and drink fun continues over at Oval Space in East London. This enormous warehouse-like venue, a short hop from the Santander Cycle docking station at Pritchard’s Road, is hosting the London Craft Beer Festival from 13-16 August. Local brewers will be joined by visiting craft beer producers from around the UK, Europe and the US – and ticket holders can try as many tipples as they like (just don’t drink and bike!).

Finally, dock your Santander Cycle at Guildford Street for an open air screening of Singin’ in the Rain at Coram’s Fields on18 August. This huge green space is usually only open to children – and the adults accompanying them – making this event a rare chance to visit a genuine London secret garden.
