Refreshingly good taste

And About Thyme is properly good. An impressive, almost warehousey space has been created, all white brick and skylights; staff have been cleverly recruited (especially entertaining manager, Issy) and the kitchen has been staffed with some real, grown-up talent (ex-Boulestin and Oxo Tower, apparently). So, despite long waits owing to unexpected popularity, we ate well.

My scallops with black pudding turned out to be sweet and caramelly complete with coral flanked with chunks of silky rice-studded Spanish morcilla made from the blood of the revered Pata Negra pig. Thick slabs of pink tuna 'carpaccio' had been flash-seared at the edges and crusted thickly with black pepper: stunning.

Fat, smoky-tasting prawns came with equally fat cloves of garlic; and we loved a juicy, charred steak with pepper sauce and home-made chips. Surprisingly poor puddings - rubbery panna cotta, ridiculous fruit brule - like a bewildered trifle - were removed from our bill without hesitation. A real find in a badly served area.
