Chefs Francesco Mazzei and Tom Aikens went head to head in a Ready Steady Cook-style challenge with a view to raising awareness of food waste – and raising money for The Felix Project charity.

Based in the kitchen at Francesco's new Battersea restaurant Fiume, they each created a variety of sharing dishes from ingredients provided by the charity making use of surplus food from supermarkets, wholesalers and retailers which would otherwise go to waste.

The surprise ingredients included bananas, stale bread and fish heads.

Diners tried the dishes and voted for their favourite using the BBC show’s iconic red tomato and green pepper score cards.
