Head-sized avocados weighing more than a kilo have arrived in Australia.

The country that started the world’s obsession with the green fruit is now home to the ‘Avozilla’ – an avocado around four times the size of a regular avocado.

The Avozilla is a cross species of two types of avocado – the huge and watery West Indian avocado and the smaller, buttery Guatemalan variety.

Originally hailing from South Africa, the Avozilla was available in the UK at Tesco supermarkets in 2013 but is making waves again now that it has hit Australian shores.

The new generation Avozillas, which are ‘just as buttery as a Hass’, are retailing at $12 (£6.70) per avocado.
