A Nordic-inspired rooftop featuring a coin-operated cocktail machine where guests can pour their own drinks is opening in London.
The roof of 535 Oxford Street — the top of the Marriott Hotel — will be transformed this summer into a space called Sisu, which is being described as a “nature reserve where Londoners can escape the bustle of the city in Scandinavian-inspired surrounds”.
The team has commissioned a one-off cocktail tap where visitors can enjoy a Negroni — a gin and vermouth concoction — or an Old Fashioned — a mix of sugar, bitters and usually whiskey.
Guests can either buy tokens for the machine in advance or on arrival, costing £8 a piece.
Access to the roof, which has a capacity of 100, is gained through a secret entrance near Marble Arch Tube. It has been designed by DENLDN — an interiors agency which has worked on steak restaurant Jackson & Rye and Peruvian cuisine venue Lima. Guests can expect log tables and heated concrete seats dotted between leafy green plants.
A menu of international street food will be served in the 40-capacity greenhouse dining space, RetrEat.
Other drink options include the Camden Town Brewery beers, Caple Road cider and an extensive wine list. Food and drink will be available between noon and 10pm every day from Thursday until late September.
