Bar Gazer: The Holborn Whippet

The buzz: Unusual craft beers sold on draught in a picturesque corner of Holborn. Don’t ask for a Foster’s — they’ll make you leave.

The deal: All the beers and ciders are from independent breweries. You’ll regularly find beers from König and Bitburger, and from independent London breweries such as Meantime and Redemption. It’s not just for beer enthusiasts, either — Normandy cider is available, as is Adnams’ superb new vodka and gin.

Good for: A drink after work. It’s very conveniently located only two minutes from Holborn Tube station. After you’ve been in an office all day, you’ll appreciate the tables outside for catching the evening sun.

Order: The Kirkstall Framboise, a Belgian strawberry beer that’s perfect for this weather, or the Black Isle Blonde from Scotland. Leave room for a burger if possible; they’re unusually good. Pizza will be coming soon.

By the way: Don’t try it out on a Sunday — it’ll be closed.
