One of London’s top Italian chefs is to open a restaurant at Battersea Power Station which will feature a Thames terrace he compares to “being in Rome next to the Tiber”.

Francesco Mazzei, chef-patron at Sartoria at Savile Row in Mayfair, and Radici in Islington, will launch Fiume — Italian for “river” — at the site in September. He told the Standard: “There are very, very few outdoor terraces on the river in central London. On a sunny day it will be like being in Tuscany or in Rome next to the Tiber. Battersea Power Station is a really fun place… it is a privilege to be part of it.”

The 120-seat restaurant with a “classical Italian” menu is in Circus West Village, the first phase of the £9 billion regeneration. Other openings include Copenhagen pizza joint Mother, seafood venue Wright Brothers and all-day diner Duckroad.
