The BBC’s hit family comedy Outnumbered is coming back for a Christmas special – and fans will be in for a shock.

It’s been three years since the Brockman family last appeared on TV, and the kids have done some serious growing up.

Tyger Drew-Honey, Daniel Roche and Ramona Marquez are all back for a 40-minute one-off episode which will see the Brockmans bundled into a car on Boxing Day “to carry out a special mission for Grandad”.

You might not recognise them as Jake, Karen, and Ben in the first image from the special, though.

Also returning are Hugh Dennis and Claire Skinner, who play parents Pete and Sue.

“I can't wait to re-join our TV nucleus, and what better place to experience the full joy of family life than stuck in the family car,” Dennis said.

Skinner said: “I am so happy to be back dipping into the Brockmans’ lives again - it is like putting on a big comfy jumper.”

The episode is due to air on the BBC over the Christmas period, and has been written by series creators Andy Hamilton and Guy Jenkin.

Outnumbered Series 5 ended in March 2014, and was intended as the final series of the show.
