As the nights draw in and the leaves turn a crisp golden brown, it’s the perfect time to tune into Autumnwatch.

Broadcasting from across the UK over the next four nights Chris Packham, Michaela Strachan and Martin Hughes-Games will be bringing us fascinating wildlife footage from the British Isles culminating in a Bonfire Night special.

While many watch the BBC’s seasonal wildlife shows for the birds, badgers and bees, music fans have another more compelling reason to tune in.

That’s because presenter Chris Packham has a rather amusing habit of sneaking song names into his animal-based patter, choosing a different band or artist theme in each series.

It all began when he joined Springwatch in 2009, and littered his snippets of dialogue with song titles from The Smiths – from the subtle to the ridiculous.

Then in 2010 it was all about The Cure.

Packham tried his luck at Manic Street Preachers puns in 2011.

In 2014, he managed to sneak in songs by The Clash.

While it’s a trick that Packham usually tends to play in the spring series, we might still get some gems this time around – even if it’s just his hat blowing away live on air again.
