Akram Khan Company: Dance Umbrella

The rise and rise of Akram Khan continued with the cultural pinnacle that is a South Bank Show profile last Sunday, so his company's showcase in Dance Umbrella is sure to be one of the hottest tickets of the season. The success is well-deserved, for Khan is a volcanic performer, a Londoner born to Bangladeshi parents who draws rich patterns from that heritage, melding Eastern and Western influences into an electric take on Kathak, one of India's oldest classical dance forms.

His style is best showcased in solo Loose In Flight, the centrepiece here. As a group choreographer Khan is not quite the finished article yet, but both Rush and Related Rocks, which complete the line-up, are full of dazzling flashes that suggest that here's a potential master at work.

Khan is the standout of Dance Umbrella's busiest period, but also worth catching is Shobana Jeyasingh's intriguing (h)Interland, sited at Greenwich Dance Agency (tonight until Sat, Borough Hall, Royal Hill SE10, 7.30pm, £10, £9 concs. Tel: 020 8239 9741) which involves a live webcast, pre-filmed images and two dancers in real time.

And there are appearances from two of the leading lights on the European dance scene, Mal Pelo from Spain (tomorrow and Sat, The Place: Robin Howard Dance Theatre, 8pm, £12 to £15. Tel: 020 7387 0031) and Charleroi Danses/Plan K from Belgium (Sun and Mon, QEH, 7.45pm, £11 to £17.50).
