The Great Fire of London will be recreated on the river Thames next month to celebrate the 350th anniversary of the historic event.

Preparations are underway to create the 120-metre-long model of the skyline of 17th century London, which will be set ablaze on September 4 as it floats down the Thames.

The installation will be the culmination of a series of events to commemorate the blaze that ripped through the City of London in 1666.

Jonathan Bartlett, the Production Manager bringing the London 1666 project together, said: “We have a huge challenge ahead of us to get the barges complete in the next couple of weeks.

“We need the weather to be on our side. We need everything else logistically to go according to plan.”
