With fortuitous timing, a video for MiC LOWRY’s current single, Oh Lord, arrived online just before Phil Collins announced his comeback from retirement.
Their smooth, harmonious song lifts parts of Collins’s In the Air Tonight (though sadly not that classic drum fill) and ramps up its teen appeal.
With the sound the quintet make, reminiscent of Nineties US R&B groups such as Boyz II Men and Jodeci, it might be surprising that they all hail from Liverpool and went to John Lennon’s old school, but at the moment, they’re certainly in the right place at the right time.
They’ve just performed in front of an armada of screaming girls as the support act on Justin Bieber’s arena tour. They appeared singing harmonies with just an acoustic guitar for backing, which they’ve long been doing online, in street-filmed YouTube videos in which they cover the likes of Beyoncé, Bruno Mars and Clean Bandit. Now they have a more complex, synth-led sound in their recordings and are ready to surf the Collins revival to their first proper hit.
