Five tracks to hear this week (Aug 4-10)

South London rapper Fekky has been buzzworthy for some time, and his long awaited debut album, El Clasico, finally appears today. It’s an 18-track feast with a large cast list, including Ghetts, Section Boyz, Skepta and, on Avirex, Chip and Neutrino.

Band name of the week goes to Nashville teenager Sophie Allison, who trades as Soccer Mommy and releases her debut mini-album, simply titled Collection, today. It reworks some of the lo-fi indie rock she’s already been making available on Bandcamp, including Inside Out, which has a video on YouTube now.

Hamilton Leithauser, the croaky voice of indie rock band The Walkmen, is following his excellent collaborative album with Rostam Batmanglij of Vampire Weekend with a series of fun cover versions you can find online. He’s just done Talking Heads’ Road to Nowhere as a bar room piano tune for Amazon Music, also streaming on Soundcloud.

Sydney singer-songwriter Alex Cameron is soon to release his first album since 2013. He should get more attention this time around thanks to Stranger’s Kiss, a duet with breakthrough artist Angel Olsen whose new video stars Girls actress Jemima Kirke.

Two years since his last album, experimental producer Four Tet has just put out his second single in a month. Planet, streaming on Soundcloud now, is seven minutes of energetic beats and an exotic stringed instrument.
