Could Oasis headline Glastonbury? Here’s what we know

By now, everybody’s heard the news: Oasis is reforming.

That’s right. After 15 years of bitter infighting, acrimonious feuds, and a split that seemingly fractured their relationship for good, Noel and Liam Gallagher will be reuniting for a series of gigs next year.

They will be playing 14 nights across the UK from June to August, including four nights at Wembley Stadium. But, as the news surfaced, the most dedicated fans started to wonder one thing: could a Glastonbury performance be on the cards, too?

The pair has played there as solo artists before, and last played the iconic music festival as Oasis all the way back in 2004, so this would be the perfect time for a reunion.

Glastonbury headliners traditionally aren’t announced until the March preceding the festival, but rumours have already been swirling, with Eminem, Rihanna and Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band all having been touted as possible fellow headliners.

This would also be the festival’s last hurrah before its fallow year, which will take place in 2026. And, with Britpop currently enjoying something of a revival, this could be the perfect opportunity for a comeback from one of the UK’s biggest bands, with Oasis selling 75m records over the course of their career, and racking up 22 consecutive Top 10 hits before their infamous break-up in 2009.

Unfortunately, it looks like fans might be disappointed: Oasis quickly updated the announcement of their upcoming gigs with the words, “These dates will be the band’s exclusive European appearances”.

So is this definitely, maybe a no? While multiple Glastonbury fan accounts shared the news, fans remain convinced that this could be a ploy designed to put people off the scent.

“Is this not something we’d fully expect to be said if they wanted to keep it a secret?” one tweeted. Time will tell.
