Jamie Wilson Productions announced on Tuesday that the stage show "Just For One Day, The Live Aid Musical" will embark on a UK and Ireland tour in 2027, with dates planned for Cardiff, Manchester, Edinburgh and other venues.

Tour details and creative team

The production, which opened in the West End in May after a run at the CAA Ed Mirvish Theatre in Toronto and a premiere at London’s Old Vic in 2024, is written by British author John O'Farrell and directed by Luke Sheppard. Proceeds support the Band Aid Charitable Trust.

Bob Geldof, 74, praised the upcoming tour, saying "Just For One Day brilliantly reimagines why Live Aid worked then and why the humanity of that day still matters now." He added, "I'm delighted that more of the UK and Ireland will finally get to see this extraordinary and compelling musical."

Background of the musical

The show is a jukebox‑style retelling of the 1985 Live Aid concerts, which were organised by Boomtown Rats frontman Bob Geldof and Ultravox’s Midge Ure. The original benefit event took place on 13 July 1985 to raise funds for the famine in Ethiopia and was broadcast worldwide.

Live Aid followed the charity single "Do They Know It's Christmas?", which topped the UK singles chart in December 1984. The London concert was attended by the late Diana, Princess of Wales and the then Prince of Wales, later King Charles III, and featured performances by Sir Paul McCartney, David Bowie, Spandau Ballet and Queen. An estimated audience of more than 1.5 billion watched the broadcast.

In the United States, a parallel concert was held at John F Kennedy Stadium in Philadelphia, showcasing The Beach Boys, Black Sabbath, Bob Dylan, Sir Mick Jagger and Tina Turner. The Philadelphia show mirrored the London line‑up and cemented Live Aid’s place in US music history.

Future prospects

Canadian audiences saw the production in Toronto before it moved to London, raising hopes for a broader Canadian tour. The upcoming 2027 itinerary will bring the story of Live Aid to new generations across the British Isles.
