New work by Peter Doig exhibited in Mayfair gallery

New work by former Turner Prize nominee Peter Doig is being exhibited in London for the first time in three years at a show exploring depictions of the human body.

Night balcony painting is being shown alongside work by Allen Jones, famous for his female fetish figures, and US artist Don Van Vliet — better known as the cult singer Captain Beefheart. The earliest exhibit is a 1914 terracotta sculpture by German artist Wilhelm Lehmbruck who went on to influence a generation of artists after his death. Doig, a former student at St Martin’s School of Art, was shortlisted for the 1994 Turner Prize but lost to sculptor Antony Gormley.

Scottish-born Doig grew up in Canada and moved to Trinidad in 2012.

The show, called Body Shop, is at the Michael Werner Gallery in central London until December 5.
