Terror attacks hit takings at Stringfellows but gentlemen's club gets Brexit boost

Peter Stringfellow has blamed falling profits at his clubs empire on a cocktail of pre-referendum jitters, terror attacks in Europe and major construction works in the capital.

The nightclub impresario said terror on the Continent and disruption from the construction of Crossrail had hit trading, but struck an upbeat tone, adding: “London is still recognised as one of the safest cities in the world.”

Accounts for his holding firm, Stringfellow Restaurants, show losses widened to £451,647 in 2015 from a £377,445 loss the year before.

Turnover dipped to £7.4 million from £8 million.

The tycoon said recent trading had been stronger. “Brexit has turned out to be a good thing, and there have been record sales at Stringfellows in Covent Garden over the last four weeks. There is an opportunistic feel in the finance sector and people continue to celebrate deals at the venue.”
