He added: “As the founder of the business from his Carphone Warehouse days he still has a 30% stake (so the dividend cut decision will not have been taken lightly) and his record shows that he has never been afraid to buy or sell assets. It may therefore only be a matter of time before analysts start to ponder whether TalkTalk is a potential bid candidate.”
Dunstone said his promotion of Tristia Harrison to chief executive and Charles Bligh to chief operating officer has created a “clear and simpler operating structure” .
On today’s share price fall, he said: “The only thing that matters with the share price is the day you buy them and the day you sell them. We are on a journey.”
