Councillor Rachael Robathan, leader of Westminster City Council, said: “There is more central Government can do to help. I have asked the Chancellor to extend the business rates holiday beyond next April. I also hope ministers think again on plans to drop VAT free shopping – this is something of great value to our international visitors and, given that 1 in 10 of all London jobs are in the West End, could help to protect employment.”
City of London Corporation Policy Chair Catherine McGuinness said: “We must keep the economy operating to the maximum extent possible, not only for future prosperity but also to pay for the extensive support which so many of our sectors, businesses and communities currently need.
“Getting employees back to the workplace safely and quickly is vital to ensure our economy does not freeze over this winter.”
