As America went to the polls, the weather could not have been better for Trump. America created 250,000 jobs last month — far more than forecast — and the US jobless rate, at 3.7%, is the lowest since Neil Armstrong walked on the Moon and close to the point at which there is effectively full employment. Wages, meanwhile, are rising at the fastest lick in almost a decade, growing 3.1% in October. Scant surprise, then, that the statistics were greeted by a Trump tweet declaring: “Wow, these are incredible numbers. Keep it going, vote Republican.”
