London's super-rich workers want to walk to work

Hedge funds and financial advisers should look at nearby luxury flats when choosing offices, according to a report on Monday which showed the super-rich prefer to walk to work.

Estate agent Wetherell said almost 35% of Mayfair’s wealthiest workers, looking to avoid traffic jams and commuter stress, only have to walk a maximum of 1.5 miles to their office.

If the wider catchment area is taken into account the walk-to-work figure rises, with 65% of Mayfair’s wealthiest staff, including hedge fund managers and wealth consultants, having a home within London’s West End region.

Many own a pied-a-terre, while some rent luxury flats.

Peter Wetherell, chief executive of the estate agent said that that for the economic health of the West End to be maintained into the future, it is important that the area continues to have a balance of residential, commercial and retail development. This will encourage companies to set up offices in the capital.

He added: “Mayfair is London’s premier destination because of its mixture of uses, the offices, shops, restaurants and hotels is what helps make people choose to buy or rent homes in the local area and call Mayfair their home.”
