To get landlords on side, Green has pledged to hand them a 20% stake in Arcadia.
Among listed landlords exposed to any CVA are Intu, British Land, Hammerson and Landsec. They respectively let 35, 24, 16 and 12 stores to Arcadia.
Ed Cooke, chief executive of retail property organisation Revo said: “The CVA process is iniquitous for property owners... and also disadvantages those businesses which are trading successfully. Like BHS, Arcadia has, fundamentally, not invested to keep up, which is why we are at this point.”
A number of retailers have agreed CVAs to cut rents amid a tough market, with weaker consumer confidence, higher business rates and competition from online rivals.
