Google’s ex-boss warns May on migrants curbs

Google’s former UK boss has joined the growing number of tech figures warning Theresa May’s anti-immigration stance will hurt London’s tech firms.

Dan Cobley, who runs fintech company builder Blenheim Chalcot, said the Prime Minister’s proposed policies, which include doubling the immigration skills charge, would hold back the sector.

“London has the best talent in the world but we have the opportunity to reinforce and strengthen that. I think we’re in danger of doing the opposite,” Cobley said at an event during London Tech Week.

He hopes May softens her approach to immigration. “The surprising result of the election showed that perhaps the populace is less aligned to the hard Brexit/Theresa May direction the country was going in before the election.”
