What’s the best part of working at a global bank? Insiders often say it’s the work trips – sipping champagne on business class flights as you traverse the far corners of the world to seal billion-dollar deals.

But at State Street, bankers are returning from their travels with more than just a signed contract and an exotic bottle of plonk. The firm recently told a portion of its London workforce to work from home, so it could send in pest control to its Canary Wharf office amid concerns over bed bugs scuttling around. Yuck.

State Street were keen to point out that the issue has now been dealt with. The firm said it “engaged a specialist for treatment and implemented a comprehensive remediation program, including monitoring with specialist traps across our premises, to ensure our employees’ comfort and safety.”
