The growth in the number of passengers flying with budget airline EasyJet slowed slightly in July, when the Olympics kicked off.

The carrier flew 5.9 million people in the month, 8% up on last July but a slowdown from June, when passenger numbers were up almost 10%.

Easyjet admitted, however, that more bums on seats would not necessarily translate to a direct revenue increase because it included seats given away free and those filled by staff.
