SMMT chief executive, Mike Hawes, said that “whatever happens this year, it can’t be as bad as last year”.
The trade body also warned that to keep up with the switch to electric vehicles, the UK needs to attract far more international investment into batteryfactories in the next decade.
The news came as the Norwegian Road Federation revealed new data suggesting that Norway has become the first country to ever see new electric car sales outstrip those of vehicles powered by petrol, diesel or hybrid engines.
