Amazon has been broadening the products it offers through the service and yesterday began dropping off beer, wine and spirits to US customers.
If it chooses to pursue restaurant delivery, it will enter an already competitive space in which companies like GrubHub and Postmates are vying for dominance.
In the UK it would face a similarly crowded market, containing the likes of Just Eat, Hungry House and Deliveroo.
Amazon did not immediately respond to the Standard's request for comment.
