Hussain flare-up

Nasser Hussain was at the centre of a flashpoint incident with South Africa skipper Graeme Smith at Lord's today to prove he has lost none of his passion for English cricket.

Hussain, who quit the captaincy earlier this week, joined in a brief but fiery debate after Smith had complained about Jimmy Anderson's run-out attempt.

The second morning of the second npower Test, which started more than an hour late because of bad weather, was going much the same way as the first day with South Africa well in command when fast bowler Anderson intercepted a straight drive from Smith's second-wicket partner, Gary Kirsten.

Anderson tried to throw down Kirsten's stumps, causing the veteran South African left-hander to take hasty evasive action to avoid being hit by the ball.

Kirsten gave Anderson a long hard look but non-striker Smith clearly made a critical remark to the bowler - and that brought an instant response from Hussain, who was fielding in the gulley area.

England's former skipper was shown on television appearing to mouth a comment in Smith's direction of: "Who the **** do you think you are?"
