Newcastle face travel chaos

Newcastle were forced to undertake a 400-mile coach trip for tonight's clash at Plymouth as the volcanic ash that had swept across the UK continued to see flights disrupted.

Magpies boss Chris Hughton insisted he would not allow the journey to affect his players, who only need a point to clinch the Championship.

He said: "It's one of those things that can't be helped, so we have to get on with it. Yes, it's not ideal but we will be doing everything we can to make sure it doesn't affect our preparations for the game.

"Our fans will be making the same journey as well. But it's just as well our lads get on well and have got a good team spirit because it's a very long journey."

Tonight's game is equally as important for Plymouth manager Paul Mariner, whose side will be virtually certain of relegation to League One if they lose.
