Hackers group Anonymous calls for backup in mission to tackle Isis online

Members of hackers collective Anonymous have called on the security services to do more to take down jihadists online.

The collective claims to have taken down more than 100 propaganda websites, as well as 25,000 social media accounts, in the wake of the Paris terror attacks.

And its members defended their hostile approach to the terror group, which has seen hackers superimpose pictures of goats and ducks onto jihadist imagery and post Viagra adverts on Isis websites.

The group of hackers is led by a small specialist group, Ghost Sec, which is made up of around 12 people from all over the world, all of whom work in the cybersecurity industry.

It has the help of Arabic speakers able to translate web pages, and hackers insist they double-check all targets to ensure innocent websites are not taken down.

However, in an interview with Sky News, the group warned that Islamic State-supporting websites are becoming better protected and they are reaching the limit of their capabilities.

With new jihadi websites emerging all the time, the group say security services need to do more to tackle Islamic State's cyber activity.

Prolific Anonymous hacker "Comedi", a father-of-three from the US, told Sky News: "I think that (the security services) are either ignoring it, don't know how to do it, or they don't have the time or the manpower.

"I guess if I had to do this as a job, I'd do it for eight hours a day and try to forget about it. As for us, the only break we get is when we're working or sleeping."
