Motorcyclist dies after hitting lamppost in south London

A 22-year-old motorcyclist has died after colliding with a lamppost in south London.

Emergency services were called to Loampit Vale, at the junction with Jerrard Street, just before 10.20am this morning.

The motorcyclist, who is from Herne Hill, was taken in an ambulance to a south London hospital, but died of his injuries at 1pm.

Police said next of kin are aware. Formal identification and a post-mortem examination will be scheduled in due course.
There have been no arrests.

A spokesman for the London Ambulance Service said: "We sent three ambulance crews to the scene. We treated a man reported to be in his 20s who was taken to King's College Hospital in a very serious condition."
