I have been trawling through moisturisers for months. Half-finished pots litter my bathroom, my gym bag and my desk drawer. I try to give each one at least a week’s use because otherwise it feels unfair and sinfully wasteful. But when you find The One, well, you just know, don’t you?

It’s been under my nose for months now, nestling in a bag of ‘I’ll get to them, I know I will’ products. Overtired, I was rifling around for a fresh cream to take away for the weekend (skin corpsey, spirit similarly compromised) when I found Shiseido’s Bio-Performance Advanced Super Revitalizing Cream (man, that’s a mouthful) and dashed out the door.

I glanced at the bumph: ‘93 per cent of women confirmed that skin felt smoother after one application,’ it crowed. But people, it is lovely, silken, plumping stuff. Skin slurps it up greedily and fattens accordingly.

The premise is this: skin facets (those triangular shapes you see in magnified images of skin) are controlled by elastic fibres that act as springs. As they become worn down, so the skin’s surface dulls. This cream works to rebuild these facets, thus retexturising as well as harnessing a new version of hyaluronic acid to hydrate, giving a soft dewy feel.

It’s The One. And I feel so chirpy about it that I wonder if Shiseido will help me find The Other One? If you get me…
