Infiniti Q50: a range of engines on offer

Infiniti has addressed some of the criticisms of the outgoing Q50 with a sweeping array of upgrades in the new model. The whole area of dynamics has been addressed, with a new version of the Direct Adaptive Steering, which they say feels like a hydraulic system. The DAS also has active lane control built into it.

There is also digital dynamic suspension, which should improve both handling and ride. It comes with five settings as well as Personal, so that the driver can tailor the responses to his or her personal preferences.

At the front end there will be a range of engines on offer, including a 2.0-litre petrol, a 2.2-litre turbodiesel, and a hybrid drivetrain which combines a 3.5-litre V6 pumping out 302bhp with an electric motor adding another 67bhp. This is more of a performance package, with the added benefit of having some extra economy and lower emissions as a bonus.

There will also be a new twin-turbo 3.0-litre V6 engine which, depending on tune, will put out 300bhp and 295lb ft of torque or 400bhp with 350lb ft of torque. Infiniti claims this is the most efficient and the cleanest engine they’ve ever made, although as yet they’re not making public any figures for consumption or emissions. All the engines will have seven-speed auto transmissions and rear as well as all-wheel drive.

There will be a top-end trim called Premium Plus as well as a range of safety packages. Details nearer the time, but delivery to showrooms is expected in the latter part of 2016.
