Ferrari unveils limited-edition F12tdf

That’s enough to hurtle you to 62mph in just 2.9 seconds. And if you ever get to go flat-out in one of these, you’ll be doing more than 210mph.

Helping it achieve these feats is a 30% improvement in downforce wrought by changes to the bodywork. These help it look the way a special-edition Ferrari should, too.

According to Ferrari, the F12tdf is nearly twice as efficient as the Berlinetta in aerodynamic terms. It’s also lighter, getting the scales down to 1415kg if you specify all the weight-saving options – which include a stripped-out cabin featuring lots of carbon and aluminium instead of luxury materials.

Despite this, figures of 18.3mpg and 360g/km are just as eye-opening as the fun ones. They could be worse, though, had Ferrari not drawn on its F1 knowledge to make it run as efficiently as possible.

Downstream of the engine is the latest version of Ferrari’s latest dual-clutch auto. The brakes are new, too, and only need 30.5 metres in which to bring the car to a halt from 62mph.

Elsewhere in the technological toy box is a rear-steer system designed to maintain the ideal steering angle by neutralising understeer. Ferrari’s name for this is Virtual Short Wheelbase. The car also gets bigger front tyres, allowing you to boot it harder out of corners.

Ferrari describes the F12tdf as ‘an extremely agile and powerful car which could also be driven by less expert drivers.’ Who knows what percentage of owners that will apply to – but whatever it is, only 799 examples will be built.

What’ll they cost? That’s something we’ll learn once the F12tdf has taken its public bow.

But the Berlinetta wears a ticket for £240,083 – so whatever number you first thought of, add it to that.
